    Default Angled dovetails

    No ... actually normal dovetails on an angled edge.

    I enjoyed watching this video from the comments section of The Schwarz's blog.

    He is constructing a box with one angled side+dovetails. Although I have seen them before, I hadn't previously thought about how you would orient the centreline of each dovetail, relative to the angled side ... or the next step about marking them out.

    From what I gather from the video he establishes a line parallel to the straight sides, then marks in the upper and lower gradients off that line at 1 in 5. Then the bevel gauge makes it easy to transfer those angles across to the edge, without bothering with any calculations on combining angles.

    Well done that man.

    I guess there are other options for setting them out?

    A few months ago I played around with dovetail joints between boards not at right angles. This is what I came up with. Not well executed but these show the principles.

    Did you do all the marking out before making any cuts?

    Or did you cut one half and transfer that over like a normal dt joint?

    I did most of the marking out as normal, cutting tails first and then marking pins from them. I marked one side of the pins with the tails, though, as shown on the extra picture (and then checked this after the tails were cut) but it is not really necessary.
