How to attach knife handle?
Hi all,
I'm replaing a knife handle and would like to use brass(?) pins to secure the 2 piece handle to the knife (as per the plastic example shown).
What are the general mechanics of what I am trying to do?
- should the pins be intereference fit on the blade
- should the pins be intereference fit on the wood (I assume so)
- do I chamfer the holes and then try and expand the pins in the wood
I will obviously glue the 2 wood pieces together.
All advice greatly welcomed, thanks.

Hi Murray,
Depends on what you want to do and how much you value the blade. Cutlers rivets are available here AKC's Australian Knifemaking Supplies The rivets are in two sections and pop together with a sharp blow."We must never become callous. When we experience the conflicts ever more deeply we are living in truth. The quiet conscience is an invention of the devil." - Albert Schweizer

Knife Handles.
Hi Murray44,
I have done similar Handles. I bored the Knife Holes out to 4 - 6mm. Bored Holes in the Handle to correspond, fitted 4 - 6mm Dowel, into one Handle piece, bored Holes in the other piece, cut the dowel to length, then Glue & Clamp together. This is then showing no way of how the Handles are attached to the Blade.
I should have mentioned that the holes do not go all the way through the wood.
Regards,
issatree.

Thanks guys.
Both ideas sound good. I'm at work at the moment and the thought police won't let me view the cutlers rivets (permission denied: weapons).
I'll have a look when I get home, I don't want it to look too industrial although it would be strong.
Issatree, that method sounds good too. I may even drill all the way through, the different colour dowels would be bit of a feature.
Thanks again. MurraySo many ideas........so little skill........
