The Ballarat Swap Meet.
Hi All.
Thought a bit of a report on Fri. 26th.Feb. 2010 that I went to the B.S.Meet.
We arrived at 7.10am. all geared up for a good day. Went to the Car Park Straight along the Fence. Backpack, Hat & some Cordial also, paid my $10 & turned left to do all the Stalls up that way.
Right on the end a chap had some Tools, & I spied a Small Hand Plane, not Stanley, but a 101 anyway. A little bit rusty, & nothing a bit of TLC could not fix.Very nice wooden spoke shave as well. $15 for the shave, left it there, & surprisingly $10 for the plane. Thankyou very much.
Further on I bought 40 Shoe laces 630mm, long for $4, as they are for my String Pull Tops, Great.
After getting the Plane Home & a bit of cleaning, the only marks on the Blade said SW with a small j, underneath. Either the S was over the W or Vice Versa.
Is there anybody out there that might know of this Plane Maker ??.
The Weather was very kind to us & I had a couple of other small buys, & we left about 2.30pm.
Great Day as always, & if you mention Southern Swap, Ballarat, nobody down this way would know what you were talking about, but if you say Ballarat Swap Meet, then everybody knows exactly what you are on about.
Regards,
issatree.

Hi issatree. The SW marked on the blade is a Stanley Trademark, Known typically as the Sweet Heart Era, 1920 - 1935 , this trademark is more commonly stamped on the blade as a SW within a Heart Shape.
Good find.

Glad you a nice day in my fair home town. I hope you didn't have any outstanding fines or warrants
For those that don't know: The police were in attendance with a number plate scanner and wheel clamping offenders. They collected $190,000 from 728 warrants.
Not totally sure how I feel about it. No doubt it was difficult for people to come up with the money at short notice (although some fees were waived and part payments offered), but I guess it should have been paid in the first place.
(Local news paper article on it)

"A SHERIFF'S office raid on drivers with unpaid fines has nabbed 60 people.
The operation, launched at the Super Southern Swap Meet at the weekend, netted the State Government $190,000 from 728 warrants."
If there were only 60 people nabbed and 728 warrants that would equate to 12.13 warrants per person ..... or an average of $3166.66 per person.
Perhaps a good thing that they caught up with a few of them! Now proudly sponsored by Binford Tools. Be sure to check out the Binford 6100 - available now at any good tool retailer.

About time they got stuck into those people who still refused to pay their fines after many other efforts have failed. They have been flouting the system to long.
I heard that after the good results so far they are getting more machines after the current amnesty expires so that they can check all major events and shopping centres on a regular basis.

Its good to see our tax $ at work doing some good. What better place to"catch the offenders" who probably thought they were safe.
My BIL has an Accountancy Practice (how come these professionals only "practice"). There was an amnesty on people who had not submitted tax returns, he had a school teacher come in who had not put in a return for 23 years! I asked BIL how he managed to trace all the necessary paper work and he said the schooly had every piece of paper necessary to claim.
My thoughts were, amnesty or not, a schoolteacher,of all people, should have done the right thing and lodged a return every year. Any way his return was something like $27000Just do it!
Kind regards Rod
