ZSteve
can you please take a photo of the full length of the chisels? Are they standard handles?
Cheers

The berg family.. (a berg show and tell)
Team
Has anyone ever seen berg chisel handles with single lines cut/turned in them, as opposed to the normal paired lines? Check the photo out.
Does mean it's older?

Generally, if it doesn't have the logo on the steel it means its not a berg.
Doesn't mean its inferior as a lot of swedish steel tools were like that.
It could have been put into that handle at some time.
I'll send pm with info on someone who knows a lot more than me.
Cheers

Frank I was more interested in the handle than the blade. Thanks for the pm. Cheers Stewart

There are over 80 brands of chisel that were made in Sweden. See list here: Swedish Chisels – Full List – galootopia
Many of them had a blue circle logo.

earlier in this thread I posted a photo of my old bevel edged bergs. As you can see they were well used and in my opinion needing a good clean. I also revealed in this thread that I developed some replacement decals. Just wanted to show everyone the final results.
Enjoy cheers Stewart

As compared to a Berg.
Wood looks like Birch root - tick
Decal looks the right sizeish - half tick
Decal looks like remnants of a paper sticker, not transfer - cross
Single turned lines - cross
Has the brass collar hoop got the edge etching on an angle - Looks vertical in the image but if yes - tick, no - cross
Result = kaching! - Probably Toledo

hi Stewart,
Apologies, lost track of this thread and didn't see your post above requesting shots of the handles.
Handles on these Bergs are most likely original - either user made or what was available through the merchant "T.Aitken" in Sydney c 1900
Cheers

Hi Stewart,
Haven't used these yet but would expect them to hold a good edge. Have cleared out a few tools lately that I have not been using but will keep these ( and probably have too many chisels). They did all come together along with some othe Ward and addis chisels and carvers, plus tennon saws mostly with a Sydney merchant name on them also. These all came from an old cabinet maker and most of the tools date from the same period with a few older ones thrown in - a nice set of tools.
Cheers
