Thread: Bessey clamps problem

Bill,
I have some new Bessey clamps and they have a Allen headed grub screw thru the back of the sliding part whose hardened end bites into the bar and stops any skidding.
These are at work so I can't take a pic.
If this doesn't make sense maybe see if you can find some new ones to copy.

Much as Clear Out indicated - check that the grub screw is still in the head. Someone may have removed it to fix something else, or use/abuse may have worn the threads off one side. If its still in there, then just turning it 60 or 90 degrees should fix the problem. Otherwise you'll have to work out what thread it is - unless its been fiddled with, its metric - and get a replacement hardened grub screw from someone like Coventry Fasteners (who sell individual screws).

A couple of cheap clamps i have are the same, i drilled holes down the bar at 50mm spacings and use a Phillips head screw driver in hole behind the slider to stop it walking away, it's annoying but they are still useable. I think the problem is the square shoulder wears off the slider and won't lock into the grooves on the bar.
