    Default The Bisaigue

I take some pleasure in knowing I'm about to introduce at least one or two of you to a hand tool of which you were unaware...

The Bisaigue is a French tool which is also known as a mortising axe. It's more of a timber framing tool than a woodworking tool I suppose, but it is, in my opinion, still pretty cool. It's shaped like a giant, full body powered paring chisel with a handle sticking out the side. It's used like a spear kind of.

Anyone own one of these or ever lay their hands on one? My cousin is kind of like the English-speaking sales rep and social media manager for John Neeman Tools out of Latvia, and they are about to start offering one.

    Here's the google search:

    https://www.google.com.au/webhp?sour...F-8#q=bisaigue

There isn't a lot of information about it, but there are at least two pretty cool videos of a guy using one.

Interested to hear others' take on this beast.

    Cheers,
    Luke

I refer to this tool as a carpenters twybill. I dont think there would be a great deal of them in Australia. Europe would be the best bet.

I have seen it before, somewhere, and I'm pretty sure it was called a "twybill" in that reference, too. If my memory serves me correctly (never a given, these days!) it was featured in the "what is it?" section in one of the Lee Valley newsletters a year or three back.

Mean-looking gadget, you wouldn't pick an argument with a builder who was wielding one of those, 'bisaigue' sounds a bit too close to 'biserk' for comfort!

    Cheers,
    IW

    Default That Beautiful Tool.

    Hi All,
I'm not sure if I'm correct, but they look to be using it on a Pine or Fir, anyway it looks rather light, but The Tool does a marvelous job on that Timber, of course under Skilful Hands.

It is a bit like those 3" Shipwrights Chisel, can't think of the correct name at the moment. Approx. 2Ft. long
Wood be great in anybodies collection.

    "Slick"
Innovations are those useful things that, by dint of chance, manage to survive the stupidity and destructive tendencies inherent in human nature.
