Could be a reaction between the tannin in your sweat and the iron handle, Jake.
Try lemon juice to remove it at the end of the day.
Cheers,

G'day Jake.
I'm a bit like Paul in that I always imagined you would be somewhat older than you look. Bit of a guessing game with you guys who don't display your age.
Your experience and patience with hand tools, combined with the occasional gnarly thumb photo, convinced me that you would be around my age. I'm now guessing you to be a mere lad in his thirties or early forties. Interesting to put a face to the name, although I wouldn't go so far as the Paul Newman comparison. Maybe...... no, shutup.
I agree that the artwork is quite intriging - where does FIL sell it? I think I may know the girl in the picture, by the way. I still have those little black panties. Also, the lower profile of "the creeper's" shadow (below your pic) is a little disturbing.
Your work on the frame mouldings is brilliant, Jake. Particularly given that you're using framing grade radiata. I know it's nice and soft, but you must spend a fair bit of time keeping your cutters nice & sharp to avoid tear-out. All by hand! No doubt hard work, as you say, but most impressive!
Do you at least cut the mitres with 240v?

ta Eddie. ...suspecting now that the handles had a swim in a puddle of oil at some time.
Thanks Wayne.
I see now. I'm 33 Wayne. I'll fix that age thing under my name.

Exhibitions mostly. Having one in brisbane in about a month. 20 or so paintings. He teaches art every month or so. Leaves for a few days to do a workshop. I think someone setup a site for him once on the internet. I should find out how to get there.

G'day Jake,
Another top thread.
But I had to pick myself up off the floor when I scrolled down and saw your mugshot I had in my mind a bloke in his mid-fifites - knock me down with a tar feather.

Think he studied at Chelsea with Brett Whiteley .

Love your work Jake, great precision. I was with Waldo on the age thing, funny how you assign an age to someone based on the skill and knowledge they appear to offer to the forum. And after all that you are actually younger than me, glad I have put my age up or people would be thinking I am 19 based on the knowledge and skill I demonstrate

pleasure. Googled it. And there's a lot of Michael Taylors out there I found.
His arts definetly interesting alright. Some of them are very naughty as well. He gave us one once. Its sits on the hallway wall.....and for months I didn't notice. Just never really had a good look at it. But some visitors would feel uncomfortable or embarrised or just stare when looking at it. I would wonder why.
then one day it clicked. What I thought was a flying bird was actually a ladies ummmmmm....private parts . not dirty mind you. All done in a tasteful way, just struck me as odd that I hadn't noticed eariler. cheeky.
