    Default Brickbat for Veritas's classifications

Not so much a brickbat, as a humorous poke at their marketing dept. We’re probably all familiar with the confusion of bevel-up planes – the LAJ, the LAS, the BUJ and the BUS (so which two can be used on a shooting board? – which three share the same irons?)

I’ve just received my new DX60 (a little gloat there) and I note in the blurb:

    * In our new number system, the first letter designates the material (Nickel, Bronze, Stainless Steel, Std. Ductile Iron). The number represents the model, and the "X", of course, stands for excellent!

Since the launch of the DX/NX60 (05P70.xx) Veritas have launched their Skew Block (05P76.xx), Miniature Shoulder Plane (05P80.01), Small Shoulder Plane (05P47.xx), Small Scraper (05P29.50), and 5 Detail Rabbet Planes (05P75.xx). But not an ‘N’, ‘B’, ‘S’ or ‘D’ to be seen, let alone an ‘X’ for excellence

That’s very poor use of the new classification system

    Cheers, Vann.

    Hi Vann -

Actually - the numbering system is just for the "premium" line of planes - of which there are only 2 extant.... the NX60, and the DX60. We have more designed - but they keep getting pushed farther down the list...

But yeah - you're right.... it does look a bit strange!!

Glad people are paying attention though....!!

    Cheers -

    Rob
