Any buck/bow saw experts out there?
I picked up a buck/bow saw today (28" blade, 5 PPI). On the tightener, it's labeled "SARGENT & CO" on one side and "AJAX" on the other. Also, there is a very faint etch on the blade that reads "THE FULTON SPECIAL" in a semi-circle above an oval (shaped like an American football) that is difficult to read, but I'm pretty sure inside the oval it says "BUCK SAW BEAUTY" -- I'm not absolutely sure of the "BEAUTY".
I did some research and I could find Fulton buck saws listed in a Sears & Roebuck catalog from 1940, but it's not clear to me if Fulton is a type of saw or a saw manufacturer. This type of saw is probably old hat for most of you, but I know very little about them.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Dave

More to the Buck Saw
Remembered where my Hibbard Spencer, Bartlett & Co catalogue was so had a dig in there in 1899
Apparently identical saw - painted red $8.50 or $9.00 per dozen according to the blade, without blades $6.00 per dozen
Blades went from $4.00 (jacksons) to $11.25 (Disston's - extra cast steel for wood sawyers) per dozen
In the bottom of the price range were Ajax (the other name on the saw rod) at $4.50 per dozen, cast steel, 30 inch, set and sharpened bright or blued.
Following makers and brands through the catalogues and histories is like being down a rabbet warren in a minefield.
