Default To buy or not to buy

I'm traveling western Queensland at present and was trawling a secondhand joint & spotted a stanley No 2 in fair condition broken handle @ $40-00 & a Record No 07 jointer reasonable condition @ $60. The Record looks good value for a buy Monday morning. What does the collective think tank think about the Stanley?

A #2 in any condition has got to be worth that.
If you don't want it I'll send you the money!

Yup, what Stuffy said. Buy it!

You can sell it later to finance something else if you decide you don't want it. You might even get a brand new LN plane for the money (well, not quite, but close).

Vann is, of course, talking about the Record #7.

linesman; they both sound like good (fair for the #7, great for the #2) prices. Are you sure it was a #2, they're a bit thin on the ground?

    Default The No. 2.

    Hi Linesman,
Went to the Castlemaine Swap Meet in April 2011, Vic. & on 1 Stand was a Stanley No.2 @ $545.
A couple of us thought it was a whisker high in price, but appeared to be in good condition.
    So Buy it ?.
    Regards,

    Hi Men & Others.
I was heartened to get the positive feed back. I'll get back to the secondhand establishment tomorrow morning at opening time & cast a more critical optic nerve over the two planes. I'm not really a collector, I'm more the user although I still have among other things the stanley #6 I got in 1965 with my 1st year apprentice tool allowance. I guess it would have been a little remiss of me to not still have some of my original tools. No sorry MajorP I'll be happy with the $40 investment if it comes off. By the way MP, I love those tools you made & posted on the other thread. I've made a couple of planes, I'll put them on the thread if it's still going when I get home in a couple of weeks. Issatree, I have trouble rationalising that sort of money for a plane. I think if I get this #2 and it's the genuine article I'll keep it for a while as a conversation piece or just plain tease some people in my woodwork club.
    Barry.
