Buy a tool and be a hero too
Here's a plug for Tupperware brand kitchen scissors. They're as sharp as. Today I tried them cutting veneer and they were excellent. I've previously tried a few things and had little success.
So, next time SWMBO tells you she is going to a Tupperware party, say "Put me down for a pair of those new scissors- I'll pay for them."

Another good choice in scissors are Nylex Gardena branded ones.
Tough as nails. We use them to cut nearly anthing at work.
Pricey though - about $20 from memory

Another one you can use to cut veneer is a rotary cutter, the kind made for sewing. I have one I use every so often and it works well.
