Default Cap Iron screw - need a slightly longer one

I have a few Stanleys that I have put slightly thicker blades into, and on a couple of them there isn't enough thread length on the screw to get a decent grip (infact one of them really wants to let go).

Does anyone know where to get a slightly longer screw please? Can't find anything on the LV site (which I thought was the obvious choice).

    Cheers
    Brett

Great, thanks very much Steve. That also prompted me - I seem to recall that Jim Davey may have had some (but not with him at the time).

How long are the screws you have?

What type of cap iron do you have and are they worn?

This type in particular can present an issue if the top part of the keyhole is worn

Clifton make a slightly longer cap-iron screw (for their thick irons). Same thread as Stanley/Record.

You'll need to try a UK retailer (google Class Hand Tools or Workshop Heaven) - and remember you don't have to pay VAT (deduct 1/6 off the retail price) - but Royal Mail might be a bit steep.

What persuaded you to not buy the thicker cap irons with the blade?

They're H&S blades, and Trent doesn't make Cap Irons. I might look at the LV Cap Irons.

Ron Hock in the US sells a very good cap iron and it comes with the screw - works great with my academy iron in the 7

Thanks Neil. I looked at the LV ones, and they are pictured with a screw (to go with their thicker blade) but no actual mention of it. I think it's pretty safe to assume that the screw comes with it (otherwise you'd be jiggered). I'm placing an LV order next week so I'll go that way.
