Default Carbra-Tec or Record Clamp Heads?

I have recently placed a substantial bulk order for Bessey K-Body Clamp through this forum. As the expected delivery of the clamps is some 3 months away, I am considering purchasing some cheaper type clamps (largish) now, so that I can build a work table, while I wait.

I Am considering the Carba-Tec Clamp Heads Cat No. CV-01B (wooden beams) @ $25 or the Irwin Record Cat No. M130 @ $46.

Are the Record brand worth the extra money, or for that matter, should I opt for the Pipe Clamps Cat No. PIPE-19 @ $15?

    What would the forum recommend?

    Thanks

Both types of clamps require extra pieces before they can be used. Make sure you consider total cost ie cost of hardwood beams for clampheads or pipe for pipeclamps. You may discover that the total cost makes these clamps more expensive than some others on the market. I know I've been there.

If you want something cheap to tide you over consider cheap Bunnings Indian made T bar clamps or the cheap aluminium sash cramps from supa cheap, the warehouse etc.

apparently the 3/4 inch pipe for pipe clamps is quite cheap. go to an engineering shop and get them to get you 2 or three full lengths and cut and thread them for you. I would go for carbatec pipe clamps myself.

    hey bjn
    try this
get hold of some square tube (i prefer 25 x 50)
    drill your holes to suit
will end up with some of the best clamps you can get
at the price diff go the carbatec

Default Irwin Quick Grip Pipe Clamp Fixtures

    Thanks everyone for you replys.

Has anyone used the Irwin Quick Grip Pipe Clamp Fixtures?
"Innovative clutch system eliminates the need for threaded pipe! Larger feet offer more stability and clearance between handle and worktop. Larger, more ergonomic handle offers easier clamping with reduced hand fatigue. Larger clutch plates allow for easier release and increased durability and dependability. Just add your own length of 3/4 inch pipe!"
The Mik website has them listed @ $39.95

    Are these any good?

    Thanks

I would steer away from the kit clamps that take the hardwood beams. They do not work particularly well, I have two sets that I bought last year and they were next to useless when it came to cleamping the top on the workbench I recently made... They move too much and its hard to get good clamping pressure.

I bought a set of the aluminium type clamps and I found them very good, excellent clamping prssure and I can store them outside since they dont rust.
You can never have enough planes, that is why Mr Stanley invented the 1/2s
