Chamfer plane
A long time ago I bought an antique Preston chamfer plane. I finally bought a new Herring blade to fit it off the net.
I cannot make it work with any success, horrible chatter, despite setting the depth of cut as fine as possible. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?
(Yes, I sharpened the blade.)

If you post some pics of the plane with the blade in, the blade and attaching bits out and the place the blade sits in Then there is sure to be some on here that will venture some advice.
Regards

There were 3 models, so a picture helpful. As the blade is not native to plane body, I hazard a guess that the wedge is not fitting properly. Suggest making a new wedge to play around with - and then perhaps - modifying the original wedge. Fiddly job, lots of paring, testing, swearing... Also worth checking how the blade rests on bed.
Cheers
