Never seen one like this, not that l know much about planes, just thought someone might like the look of it.

Being aware of the work involved, I would not class this plane as being over priced.

That seller has some interesting pieces.
Along with the mitre plane, the Lancashire pattern rebate plane is worth a look.

That's fairly local to here (other side of the state, but not too far). Like stewie says, if you make a couple of those types of planes, it will suddenly seem like a reasonable price.
Stuff like that doesn't generally sell locally here, though. I think the folks buying are elsewhere. In the states, there are some regional things with collectors, like near philadelphia, John Bell was a prodigious maker, and some of the antique mall sellers will charge extra, but I haven't seen anyone else mention John Bell outside of locally here.
Carpenter, on the other hand, was also a prodigious maker, and I have seen non-local sources suggest the planes are more valuable because of the maker's mark.

Interesting Plane ! the way it's made that is .
It has me wondering if its part cast iron and dovetailed steel as well?
That would be a strange example if it is .
The seller thinks we should admire its Art Deco Styling ?? Sellers come out with all sorts of BS don't they
Miter planes can be seen at 4 times that price and even more , between $500 and $900 is pretty average though.
I get to use them every now and then .They are a nice type of plane to shoot with on a shooting board with fine work, and great to use on end grain while shooting or just freehand on end grain bits. For quick end grain work I usually reach for a shoulder plane though , it works the same and a narrower blade is easier to push.

If two people were bidding then one missed out. So the one who missed out would be in with a better chance on this one.
