I don't think this view of the self is just limited to our bespoke toolmakers. I think at the very least it will include failed politicians (how many do we know get booted out of office and then write their memoirs which fancifully state how good they were) sportsman, sportswomen (trying to be PC here) and other people in public life.

Paul, I agree. I think that most (from what I've said) would say that that type of personality profile is a marker for success in any of these things. I am easily discouraged if I'm wrong or if I make a mistake, especially if it seems like one of those "how could I have made that mistake"? kinds of things. To do what my relative did, or what John E. did with BCTW, it helps if you think you're really doing something nobody else is doing, and if you're able to remember only the positive things and forget the negatives quickly.

Of course, that marker without the intelligence to execute is a bad combination, but coupled with competence and drive, it's pretty powerful.

The books and the self-congratulatory stuff can be a bit off-putting to the rest of us, but seeing the pattern is interesting to me. There is a lot of utility in it.

I never really made the conscious connection about the books until said user above mentioned to me that they make up a large percentage of his work, and that they're not generally as interesting as the autobiographers say they will be!

Bugga, I guess that means we will never see the kerfmaker-2. Have been looking at one of these since they were first mooted, emailed ProTool, the group who kindly did the donations to the forum’s giveaway but even they have not been able to get me one.

Just a comment about relativity of costs, when an item does the job but it costs $100, think about it, yes it’s a lot of dollars but what is it really..... 1 - 2 tanks of fuel, 2-3 cartons of beer, I could go on but I’m sure you get the picture.

I can only hope that “someone” picks up the design and starts making them.

Waiting, not too patiently, for the KM-2...........
    Regards,
    Bob
