Default chat about sidchrome made in australia tools!

Ok lately i have been trying to buy some sidchrome made in australia tools like socket sets, spanner sets wrenches, ring spanners pliers etc, the problem is the prices they go for on ebay is like gold, they reach more for a collectors price rather then a tool u can actualy use it looks like it, i remember back then they were like buying a sidchrome tool set like these days very affordable i wish i had bought that 205 piece set in the locker was going for only 600 bucks back in 1992, the question is is the quality of the old sidchrome tools really that good or is it overated and go for heaps cost they dont actualy get made in australia and get made in china and the price people are paying for sidchrome they can actualy buy new snap on tools.

You might have more of a chance of someone responding if you ask this question in the metal working forum.

I'm with Bob, I don't think sidchrome made many woodworking tools! Try the metalwork forum.

I can't really compare as we (the family) have never owned anything else, but I can say that our Aussie Sidchrome tools have so far lasted for two generations, with car servicing, building and renovating homes, etc etc. Not one broken socket or ring spanner, nor an unservicable open-ender or pair of pliers. I still have all the originals and have bought hundreds more pieces of Sidchrome kit on ebay, making up sets for two sons and a future son-in-law. I think our track record is a fair recommendation. Happy customers!
