Default One chisel with one box

After a few really nice chisel boxes showed up here, this one might be a bit underwhelming. But anyway...

I fixed up this chisel for my brother in law's birthday. Got to further play and practise with my foot powered lathe. The handle is made with a piece of River Oak.

To present it to him, I went to make a simple box. I used a chunk of New Guinea Rosewood. I based my design on them old wooden pencil cases.

That will present nicer than just rolled in bubble wrap [emoji3]

I really liked the simple box so I made a variation for another give away.

I am actually intrigued by these old pencil boxes that I want to make a proper double decker one with my own spin on it. Let's see when I get to that.

    That's a very nice handle.

I had one of those double decker pencil boxes that swung out when I was a kid (ah, so long ago) so if you do one, please post so I can steal get inspiration from your work.

What a simply but elegant design for a box for a chisel. Thats a great restoration job. Bet he was pleased with that?

You also did that stanley plane in another post if i remember correctly. Top not restoration/enhancement efforts

That is a terrific "storage" method and an ideal gift box. It would be very suitable for single knife projects too.

Without wanting to upstage you in any way, it brings back memories of my childhood when I had a triple decker pencil box . The top two sections operated like yours except the very top had a sliding lid and the bottom section was another sliding section that extended lengthways. I am sure you could develop this concept.

As I don't have the aforementioned box, I went looking for something similar and this probably is close. (Google "timber pencil boxes" for inspiration)

Your use of this style of box gives me a few ideas too (for down the track).

Yes, that is the type of box I want to make. I always thought they only be done in two layers. Triple layer sounds better. I will do that.

Sure, but the twist I am about to put on is based on a rookie mistake I made last year. So not sure if you want to "steal" my mistakes, but be my guest

Thanks for that. Explains a lot how they do that. I can certainly use some of it.

Not sure when I will get to that. Soo many projects and soo little time......
