Default Chisel handle keep falling off

Well my little expert’s, I have nice socket handle chisel that the handle keeps falling out and I need some ideas on how to keep it in. It's a right pain when it comes apart and the sharp bit hits the ground thus requiring a resharpen, help please

I would use some paper as a "gap Filler". Just try one or two pieces to give you a tight fit. Also check to see that the handle is not bottoming out. If the taper is now too long for the taper on the handle just cut a poofteenth off the bottom of the taper.
You will be amased how little "filling" you need.
Glue is not a good idea. One day you may have to replace the handle and it won't be easy to "dig" out the old handle
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

After checking the tenon length as above, you can use rosin - just find someone who plays a bowed string instrument (violin, cello etc) or get some from a music shop online.

Rosin is worth having in the workshop - as well as keeping chisel handles in place I use it on wooden plane wedges to help minimise movement. Also on the plow plane fence rods to help them remain in place. And its handy to help stop screw cam-out when power driving screws - rub some on the bit. The musician variety comes as a block, but you can also get a powder - used by gymnasts to help grip bars, rings etc, and ballet dancers on their slippers to stop then slipping (hmm... shouldn't slippers slip?? ) )

Make sure its gum rosin & not a synthetic variety.

I used to use gum tree sap to glue heads and knocks on arrows. Just make a hole in the tree and wait a few minutes. Should work on chisel handles ok.

I've heard this before as well - but haven't had to try it yet. Don't use epoxy or any other glue - you'll regret it one day.

I think all the tricks I know have been suggested already.

I'm a great advocate of of socket chisels, but the dry Summer we had almost turned me off them. As you say, it's rather alarming to pick up a razor-sharp 1 1/2" chisel & see the blade go curling towards your feet! Sharpening a gapped edge is a chore, but searching for missing toes in the shavings isn't my idea of fun at all..

Hair-spray did the trick for me, though I did have to re-apply on a couple I 'fixed' early in the dry spell.

Epoxy will work, for a while at least, until it gets brittle & cracks but as someone said, it's an antisocial thing to do, someone down the track is going to want to fit a new handle. As someone who has replaced lots of handles for myself & others, I would plead that you avoud glue of any sort if you can...
    Cheers,
    IW

Yeah I love socket chisels but should have thought to bring my chisels inside last summer. Couple of the handles on my Harold & Saxon set are loose now and one of the ferrules even cracked [emoji45]

Well my lovelies, some good suggestions here and I'll follow up starting with the hair spray first followed by the Rosin idea. Anything’s got to be better than nothing at this stage. Thank you for your help guys

When looking for "rosin" also think "resin"
It is an extract from live trees. Maybe "sap" would be a more familiar term.
Used since ancient times as an adhesive.

Make sure that the inside of the socket is clean.
