    Default ....and a Chisel Rack

Also part of the shed upgrade was to get the chisels out of the drawer. This has been made to take the Harold & Saxon chisels, but in the mean time the old bangers will have to do.

I used REMs again - two behind each blade in the Qld. Maple strip. There's a 10x10mm trench at the bottom to keep the bevels safe.

Looking good Brett. Any signs of the finer chisels being magnetized? It happens to my Parting tools and I have to run a demag tool over it to use on the lathe.

Dunno yet - they've only been there for a few hours . Can't see how it will be a problem really. I've had my rules on magnets for years and they never seem to attract much attention (sucking a tool over to it).

    Brett

I spoke to Trent on this issue quite a while back and he doesn't see the magnetism as an issue. In fact he doesn't even demagnetise the tools after machining.

What size REMs are you using?

    Thanks chaps!

2x 15x5 for each blade. They happen to have a countersink hole, which is unnecessary for this operation, but has been supremely useful for other parts of the shed fitout (such as holding the Bessey clamps against the wall). For REMs without the C/S hole you might get by with 12x5mm.

Have to be careful to set them up with the same polarity facing the same way - you don't want the rack throwing the chisel back at you.

For the plane till I used 2x 20x5mm with C/S hole to cope with the extra weight.

    REMs, what else?

Nah, nah, just kidding. If you look at the blade of the far left chisel you can just see a brass screw head. The other three are concealed from this particular view by the handles and the 2" blade.

All my chisels are in rolls,

    In a box

    In storage
But I plan to have a rack in the new shed. I was going to go traditional and let gravity do the job but I quite like the clean look of the concealed magnets. Well done that man.

    Sad

I'm happy to use gravity - too cheap to buy the magnets

PS you getting a new shed?
