    Default It's not just chisels

[QUOTE=ch!ppy;1561527]we (Adelaide) have sunday trading now (for a long time) and open till 9pm , they (TV , 7 &9 etc) reported here that Aldi hasnt come here because coles and woolies have bought up/locked up all the sites zoned for supermarkets etc,

There will come a day, when letting two corporations control nearly all food and fast moving consumer goods in the entire country, will be looked upon as not all that flash.

    Default The Chisels.

    Hi all,
Went to the Local Geelong, Vic. Sunday Market, & a chap had all these New Chisels, Yellow & Black Plastic handles in most sizes, $2 ea. or 6 for $10. Had a very smudged Handle, but it looked like " Aged ".
Had absolute boxes of them. Even had covers for the Blade.
Didn't look to bad. Told me they came from Spain. Great Tool Makers he said.
I have more Chisels than I care to think about, so I left them there.
    Regards,
    issatree.

Good score Jim, and interesting observations.

I've only ever bought 'shaggy dog' bench chisels (all HCS obviously) and they've varied a lot in hardness (DC might call this abrasion resistance) and edge retention. Some old Titans were real dogs to lap; others were mere puppies. I love Berg BEs mainly for the aesthetics. Don't regard them as good for Aus timbers 'cept for soft ones and that would match their design brief I expect.

There's no reason that HCS can't be done both well and cheaply as long as the heat treatment is on the ball.
    Cheers, Ern
