Chisels and files
Does anyone know if Aldi still bring out their Workzone chisels occasionally? I've been tracking their special buys for some time and seen a few different woodworking batches come through but never any chisels.
If this is a no, can anyone recommend another affordable and 'reasonable' beginner chisel set (~6, 2, 19, 25mm) that I can practice honing and cutting pine dovetails with?
Keeping an eye out, but second hand chisels aren't a common find where I live...
I plan on getting the Narex Cabinet chisels as my nicer set when i move on (and ground for hardwood work).
Secondly, I've been looking for double extra slim files to sharpen a dovetail saw, however i seem to only find them in 10pk, or purchasing singles for shy of $30 plus postage. Does anyone know of a supplier to buy singles at a reasonable price?
Thanks in advance!

Luban chisels could be a good starting point. This is where I started too.
If you do a Google then a set of 6 is about $100.
Second hand Marples on eBay could be another option.

I'm very happy with my Narex set of chisels.
With respect to the saw files, this is what I use for 12-14 tpi saws, purchased from GasWeld.

Hi D. I took the plunge and ordered the 10 pack because I too was looking for the same size files. Initial outlay is high but cost per file can't be beat. These were recommended to me and they are some of the quickest cutting I have used

Hi Deronys,
Being a newbie, my chisels are also a Luban set of 6 that I bought secondhand from a fellow forumite. Works quite well for dovetail in pine (haven't done much with hardwood), though they seem to require re-honing quite often.
Since then I've bought a few beat up Titan chisels from GT/Marketplace, though they are a PITA to restore without a proper grinding setup. I spent many hours on sandpaper on tile & diamond plate without making much progress. Fortunately, a mate offered to initialise the bevels on his Tormek and they are now a decent user.
Cheers,
Andy

Hello Deronys, Dapto Market occasionally has some good chisels for reasonable prices.
I can vouch for the Narex Bench chisels, I just brought my second set of FB Market place. These are for me as the first set went to the Woodworking club, I am a member of.
I can even offer to flatten the backs and establish the bevel for you, as I am in the Illawarra.Pat

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll keep it in mind. With a 9mo old its a bit harder to coordinate myself to get to markets early enough, but I'll have to remember that option.
Pat, that is a very kind offer, i might take you up on it when i get a couple of chisels. Which club are you a member of?

For those that are curious, BGS will can special order the Bahco 6in double extra slim tapered file (4-188-06-2-0) for $10.86 per piece, and i just ordered them individually where the previous advice was 10pk only.
