two old chisels - opp shop = happiness
This should be in the "Monday night show and tell" thread ... but I'm working on a notebook with a broken screen at the moment and web surfing is really difficult... I can't even find that thread. ???
I still want to crow a bit though.
First is a 1" socketed mortice chisel (15 & 1/2" long) stamped with the Ward name and markings... lots of blade and the handle is very nice... socket fits well as does ferrule. I'll just oil the handle and sharpen the blade and it will be a beaut worker.
Second is a E.A. Berg bevel edge with a 1 1/2" stamp, but also stamped with 38mm. Lots of meat left and a work ready handle. The imperial and metric marking makes me think it is a bit newer that the the chisels I usually try to pick up.
I put both on the bench grinder, but have not sharpened them yet. I'll probably sell the Ward (maybe both), but you gotta love country opp shops. I have a 'pig sticker' mortice chisel set and a good bevel edge chisel set... so the sensible decision will be to put them on ebay before I decide to start looking for more to make up sets. ... but 15 1/2" of Ward steel is calling out to me to be given a good home.
Thank you Macksville, NSW.
