A mate of mine was cursing his scroll saw also braking blades every 5 min.

    Dud batch of blades!!!

Next packet (decent brand) no problem.
Any thing with sharp teeth eats meat.
    Most powertools have sharp teeth.
    People are made of meat.
Abrasives can be just as dangerous as a blade.....and 10 times more painfull.

Don't know if it applies to a fretsaw - I guess it does - but one of the main cause of scrollsaw blades breaking is the users tendency to push to the side rather than directly into the blade. Even now I still find myself doing i, and it's guaranteed to break blades.

    Lightbulb

Should be fairly tight, nice middle C when plucked.
Make sure tyhe arms are not out of alignment either as this will cause undue stress to both the blade and the operator when the blades break.
Good blades are available from http://www.mikesworkshop.com/ and are cheaper than Olsen. German and well made with a good range.
Also have a look at http://www.scrollsaws.com/ for tips on tuning your saw, not sure if yoursis there but most are similar and it may be of some help.
