I have a set of Lie-Nielsen chisels, both the mortice and bevel types. I think they are good, but would be interested what others might say.

I have quite a few chisels myself, my favourites are my E.A bergs and two cherries. My first chisels were the two cherries as they were given to me by my dad, but then I bought a set of bahco chisels. They're great, and I reckon they are the best place to start. On the market for about $150 for the set if you look hard.. I was lucky enough to pay $50 for an unused boxed set at a garage sale Great steel that holds a beautiful edge, and, although plastic handled, a beautiful weight and balance to dem.
