So why should a WW who sees the value in, and can afford a regular Bridge City shoulder plane, feel any need to then replace the rest of their planes, merely because they are run of the mill Stanley workers?
Well like I said, it was a throw away line, however we were talking about a $3000 collector's item, rather than a regular BC plane, or so I thought.

Ian was using the analogy of the golf sticks to 'justify' the purchase of one of these planes. I was making the point that although a whole bag of decent quality sticks might cost you in excess of $3k, a golfer is unlikely to buy just one $3k stick and play the rest of his round with rubbish. We were comparing total spend (full set of golf sticks) with a single purchase (this plane). Hence my throw away remark in response to his. I wasn't really suggesting you would need to replace all of your planes.

I hope I've explained that sufficiently.

Yep I gots one, it is prerdy and nice to use as for comparisons can't help you there as I don't have an iron version........yet.

I suspect the difference if any would be minimal given the nature of the thing and the smallish surface area bearing against the wood.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder with that one. Reminds me of a cuckoo clock for some reason.

I'd really like to know the history of this one.
Looks terrific to my eye. Is that a single wedge or a pair of side by side wedges, or has the wedge split?
I wonder what wood was used?
    Interesting.
    Thanks for posting it FRB

Actually looking at it again today, it looks like one of those sea monsters off an old maritime map. Here there be Dragons.
