Interesting... The Millers Falls tote and know don't match, but we have already been told that is not the odd plane out.
So my guess is that the middle one is shorter than the rest? Or is that just an optical illusion?

Cameron,
The Siegley is a standard #2 size, blade width is the same as all the rest, and length is right, it is just sitting back a little in the picture and it's sitting next to the MF plane which is slightly larger than most other #2 size planes.
The MF is all original, its not unusual to get variations in the colour of knobs and handles. I sort of chase those with a mismatch and will keep them in preference to those that match. I can't remember if it was in this forum or another that there was a discussion about handle colour and originality, but I have a few planes in the box with stark mismatched colour.( the 10 1/4 is one of them)

Peter

is it the SsS being the only Stanley made plane there?Best regards, Luban

Luban,
Yes it is the only Stanley made plane in the picture, BUT it is another red herring. I had to keep all the Stanley products out of the picture to ensure it was a red herring
Not that one....but you are certainly on the right path...a little more research is needed...

The one on the far right looks like the lever cap is set really high - again it might just be an illusion though...
The one on the far left also seems pretty high. No real guess there, but trying to put my thoughts out there in case it helps someone else.<Insert witty remark here>

Not absolutely sure of this but....
Is it possible that the Ohio is the odd one out because it came from a company that made only Ohio planes and Ohio planes were not made by someone else?
I am thinking that the others either made a line of planes for others or were made as a line of planes by others.
eg Millers Falls/ Fulton
Union/ Siegley
Sargent/ other makes (mental blank at the moment)
Marsh/ Lakeside

SG,
Ohio made planes for a couple of others including the Keen Kutter brand for Simmons Hardware. They can easily be spotted in the 4 & 3 sizes because they have the extra screw on the bottom of the handle like the larger bench planes. It isn't clear in the picture, but the #2 Ohio has a second screw in the handle also.
Some retailers used a couple of different makers as well. For instance, the Keen Kutter brand bench planes were later also made in the early round side Bedrock pattern by Stanley.

Peter

Thanks for the feedback Peter.
What about the Marsh M2
According to Patrick Leach
H.C.Marsh #M2 smoothing plane; this #2-size smoother
has the Bed Rock style mating of the frog and main
casting
So is it the only plane with a bedrock style frog and main casting?
I can't see the backs of the frogs, but is it the only plane with a
back frog screw adjuster to close the mouth?
Guessing really...............

How about
the Siegley because it is the only one with a round, (domed) top on the blade.
or because it has lighter coloured timber in the handle and tote.
What is that timber anyway? Huon?Cheers

Tom,
Patrick might have dropped the ball on this one...Mine is marked behind the knob Marsh, and in front M2, and the blade H C Marsh Co, Rockford Ills.USA, 1 5/8 inch.
The lever is marked 1 5/8, as is the frog.
Another warning not to believe everything read on the internet
However you are correct in that it was the only one with a frog adjuster screw! But not my oddity

Peter

Hi Peter is it the Union 2c because it is the only corrugated plane in your tool line up. I think we need to let you win more often
