Hi,
it's worthwhile buying the corrugated sole handplanes - not because they make planing easier but because it could be possible to make a profit that enables one to buy an LV handplane.
I went to the Auckland (New Zealand) annual Antique Tool auction last weekend and planes with corrugated soles were selling for 3 times the price of the equivalent model with the flat sole, e.g. $90 NZ as opposed to $25 NZ for a Stanley No 5.
Caution: it may just be this year's fashion among tool collectors, e.g. I picked up a set of 5 English heavy mortise chisels, good condition, for $49 NZ. In previous years, these have gone for much more but this year they seemed to be out of fashion as no collectors were interested.New Zealand
