    Default Craftsman block plane

I bought this plane a couple of years ago for $15. Its a Crafstman 107-37032 (same as a Stanley 9 1/2 I think). Got it home and flattened the sole, sharpened the blade, and gave it a test run, was pretty dissapointed, so I put it in a drawer and forgot about it.

Found it again the other day, so I had a better look, noticed that the blade was sitting on a couple of high spots. Spent some time flattening the bed, gave the blade a touch up on the stone and gave it another try .

Well what a surprise. On some 1/4 sawn silky oak, it was taking consistant full width shavings at .002", no tearout at all. (I've never planed silky oak before, I would have thought I might get a bit of tearout on the medullary rays ?) Also tried on a few different species with similar results.

Anyway, I'm happy I rediscovered it now, a bit more of a cleanup and it will sit next to the #65 in the cupboard.
