Custom paring chisels M2
Hi there! So currently I have a set of 8 paring chisels that were produced as a batch order here by thumbsucker a number of years back. Unfortunately, I am needing to part with them. I think a few members would appreciate what they are so instead of throwing them into the disarray of the market section (which I will do) I thought I would announce what was going down here. If anyone has a link to the original thread for the chisel order, please let me know. I believe some M2 plane blades were done around the same time. Thanks!
For now, here's a photo--

The rest can be found here
And deets--
Sizes (mm): 24.5, 19.5, 15, 12, 9, 6, 4.5, 3
Steel: M2 high speed tool steel (cryogenically treated). The side bevels have been taken to a very fine edge and the primary bevel has been ground/milled to 25°.
Ferrules: brass
Handles: possibly Bubinga? I would have to check with Helmut on that. It is incredible rich and close-grained.
The blades, ferrules and handles have been meticulously fitted and finished by myself. Most was done in-between projects while I was studying at the ANU School of Art in 2011. Handles, tang and ferrules are a snug fit; none have been glued. Testament to the care and thorough effort that went into the order, the blades are wonderfully flat (requiring very little to get them perfectly honed). I should also point out that the M2 is remarkably resilient.
The set has been hardly touched (as you can see by the photos). Only about three chisels have been sharpened. Their immaculate condition is a result of a shift in ‘craft’ towards a career in architecture.
Let me know if you’re interested. I’ll post to the market soon, but wanted to gather some thoughts first. I look forward to checking out the rest of the forum.
