Put me down for some 12x4mm please.
Thanks again for all your work on this.

For what I'm hoping to do, brass'd probably just be wasted. (As will most of my work. ) So leave me out.
I'll stick with the default bevel too, although I'm tempted to go hollow ground...

The 6 x 6 mm brass is going fast, with just over half of it already gone we only have 1,540 mm left.
The 12 x 4 is going slower and we have 2,850 mm left.
See below for how much I have allocated and to who. Basically the width(s) of your blades plus 10 mm extra for each blade and then rounded up just to be a little generous.
Also make sure I have recorded what primary bevel you want correctly.

Hi TS,
If after, the D2 Batch 2 people have had their fill of the 6mm x 6mm, and if there is any left over I would be grateful for a little.
Many thanks TS.
Cheers

I will be going to Dandenong tomorrow to pay for the steel. I will also pick up the O1 for the floats.
Meeting Kevjed to give him his O1 and hopefully m2c1Iw can catch me on Friday when he is in town to get his.

The ship has set sail
Today I went to pay Bohler Uddeholm for the ten meters of D2 and the 2.5 meters of O1.
I had a shocking nights sleep and had to make the three hours trip from my place in the west down to Dandenong on nothing but an hours sleep.
Finally got to meet Warren who I had missed on my last visit. Lovely guy, talked about the boat builders out Mordialloc way were he lives. Had a chat about mild steel lapping plates, which he said would be problematic, long story why, he suggested that cast iron instead, again long story. Not enough sleep to explain.
Then I got the grand tour of Bohler Uddeholm Melbourne, you just cannot not imagine what these guys do. I saw stuff that would blow your mind. Forget your 12" bandsaw today Warren showed me a 3 meter bands saw with a giant rip saw blade amazing cutting lumps of steel the sizes of cars into anything you want.
To cut a long story short, today I paid for the steel plus GST. I honestly cannot believe they even bother with helping us, for such a small job.
Almost had a heart attack when I tried to pay the bloody transaction denied . Turns out that my bank does not allow me to use my card to pay more then a $1000 in a single day . Had to f around for half an hour talking to my bank to get an internet payment instead so I could pay Bohler Uddeholm. I was so embarrassed, unbelievable. After I checked with my bank that it would be no problem yesterday. Not happy.
However in the end it was all settled and all good. The ship is now setting sail. Warren will email me when the steel arrives it should take between 8 to 12 weeks, at the most. So we should expect the shipment to arrive anytime between the end of March to late April.
Met up with Kevjed and gave him his O1 for the floats he wants to make and I am going to hit the hay, now and sleep.
Almost missed my stop feel asleep on the way home.
We only have 790 mm of 6 x6 brass left and 2,150 mm of the 12 x 4 mm brass left.

Hello,
It has been Adventurous all the way, hasn't it? . Getting these kind of things going tends to take you to the places and situations others can only wonder about. Anyway, there is a lot more boring ways to not get any kicks at all whatsoever .
It is sometimes not too self-evident that some large international business enterprise dealing especially with bulk materials production will directly serve private customers just like that. It is very good if these kind of decisions are left (up to some point) to the local office. Also, direct contact to the source is usually the best guarantee for getting what you ordered. Less middlemen, less hassle. Less costs. Maybe even less time spent, perhaps.
I would think Uddeholm, Rippon etc, would not mind at all if their names are frequently mentioned in the process. Especially their significance in different stages of process when so many fellas at the moment have hands-on experience in bevel grinding and how tough operation it is. Then again, to notice kman's Obvious Method (TM ) for abutment tuning, it would not probably work that well if the blade would not be very smooth and flat and not have even thickness. All kinds of further refinements become feasible because there is quality work from the start. It's something not to be shrugged off just like that.
*****
If I may highlight something a bit off topic: Keep on supporting your domestic services and production, and don't let them spill into some faceless hands. In good business and product development, you really need to know and sometimes even personally meet your counterpart even as a private customer. It's bilateral thing at least, otherwise there is no one to go to talk with and able to fix it, if there appears troubles.
Oh well.
kippis,

Floats
Here are some photos of the O1 floats steel I go yesterday the long one is 1030 mm and the short one is 510 mm long.
Attachment 66301
Today I had a go at cutting out three floats. This O1 stuff is so soft its like cutting really tight grained timber, lovly. I was suppired how easy it was to saw with a cheap saw. I gave myself room to work with but managed to cut a very true to the line. I then used a file to clean up the cut edge.
I used an 11º angle since this is what I will be using on my plane abutments, and wedges.
Attachment 66302
I have also attached a pdf, of a grid with the lines spread out 3.15 mm apart, that should give you almost 3 lines per cm or 8 lines per inch just like Lie-Nielsen uses in their floats. May be of use to others.

Looking good thumbsucker.
How long are you going to make each float overall? Thanks for all the running around that you have been doing.
All the best
Kevin
