Default O dear, we have slipped too far.

This just showed up in my YouTube thingy,

An I have lots of questions?

    What the F……. Happened.
How did we evolve so far ,then just seemed too be slammed into reverse.
How did it even get past the idea stage, without someone saying your an idiot.
How did it get too manufacturing.
How , o it docent matter, are then any seats on anything leaving earth, I might be interested,

I only got to the 3 minute mark before I had had enough [emoji849].

I'm going to show my cynicism here, but the discussion of a fad or junk do all tool is just a decoy for the real purpose of the video.

That is, the idea of setting up links to get you to click on something else existed before the excuse to put them on something ever came about. I'd bet these freeloading content providers are pretty much sitting around waiting for anything odd to use as clickbait and here's why.

you see the nonsense in the video, and the presenter says "I'm not sponsored in any way on this video" which will "lower the hands for the jab" so to speak, by making people believe that the point of the video in general isn't to make money.

Below that is an array of links, along with merchandise above it (that's a given), but I figured I'd look up the affiliate program for lowes. Mind you, i've never made a video or sent anyone *anything* ever with a revenue token. I find it repulsive.

Here's the reality - if you click on the token ID below the video for lowes here, and you close your window and you come back within 24 hours and buy something, this guy, unless the token gets bumped, will have a cookie record on your machine and get 2% of anything you buy.

if you click and look at the hammer, he brought you to the site, then you're in their system and if they manage to serve you something else based on your browsing habit and you buy, he gets 2% of it. Doesn't matter if it's a battery powered lawn mower, two hammers or a shed. He gets 2% unless you wander away for 25 hours instead of 24 and then make the purchase.

These guys are kind of telemarketer style pros at this. If you leave a comment about on the video "ghee, I doubt the item was ever known before this video format for this very video was thought of given all of the revenue token /affiliate links". You'll get no response. they're loaded up already knowing if they don't respond, your comment will sink down and they don't even have to bother to moderate it.

these guys wear it as a badge. Someone in the states went to amana or one of the other no-fee tool shows and several of the content creators were there - rex something, WBW, "Animal Trades" (as the closed captioning calls it) and they sort of walked around sucking attention away from folks at the event (without being invited in the first place) and then had a big meeting that I suppose all of the attendees thought was going to be about woodworking. Instead, the contact that I have here said they spent the entire time talking about ways to grow subscribership and generate revenue.

You blokes have stronger stomachs than mine - I lasted less than a minute.

What a stupid waste of material!

I got to 6 minutes and saw the real "hammer fist" that someone else had made. Whatever floats your boat I suppose.

There was 11 minutes in that video - I watched a few seconds and then skipped through and it got worse.

I haven't come across that channel but a rule of thumb is that channels with "DIY" in their titles are there for the gullible who blow in off the virtual street via search engines.

I get that "content producers" (or "influencers") have to make a crust. But when they play their audiences for fools it leaves a foul taste. As others have said, whether that is the undisclosed affiliation, the product advertorial pretending to be an "independent" product review, or undisclosed freebie, it really destroys audience trust (that one asset they are banking on in the first place). I am truly turned off by content producers who gloat ad nauseum about the free stuff they get, to the point I have been supporting a couple of emerging channels that have good content but are made on the smelly smouldering boiled linseed oil rag.

Talking about smouldering rags, the Bourbon Moth v AVE boiled linseed oil thing, really added colour and movement to an otherwise dull You-Tube woodworking world.

Like Ian, less than a minute for me. Can you imagine what that would do for your wrist? Mine's bad enough after 40 years with a proper hammer!

you guys have a lot more stamina than I do! As soon as he said he has no sponsors, I looked for revenue token links and closed the video!

Dumpy numbs is probably the king of this kind of garbage - claiming to use something, then saying the video isn't sponsored, putting the item in another video later and using a revenue link to the item in the current video and another different sponsor, or sometimes none.

Hadn't thought of that, Ray, but now you mention it, it's the only way to make any sense of such an absurd bit of nonsense.

And as Brad says, using something like that in any serious way would almost certainly lead to RSI, so if they really do sell a bunch, I hope they have a contingency fund for the lawsuits that will be incoming....

A miss hit with a hammer is annoying. A miss hit with that "contraption" could put a piece of steel inside your hand! That is quite apart from being close to useless.

What's even worse for the guy is that he's in the Lowes affiliate program and trying to come up with excuses to use it on a video, and a bunch of Australian folks are reading it and the link doesn't work for Bunnings!
