    Default Which Clamps to Buy

Sorry if this has been asked previously, and I am sure it has, but I did a search with negligible results.

Well, I have managed to squirrel away a little bit of cash, and have decided to spoil myself with some clamps.

The question, for all you knowledgeable woodworkers is:

    1. Which brand to go for? (I was leaning towards Bessey, but only because they are held in high regards here, and if so what model/type?)
    2. What sizes should I get, and how many?

I would like to do projects like small bedroom side tables, coffee tables, cutting boards, dog kennel etc. However, her indoors, has requested an outdoor park bench. I was thinking that 600 mm and 900 mm clamps should cover most applications, and the budget is circa $300.

    Suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a few clamps. The ones that I use the most are my old style Bessey K bodys. 300mm & 600mm get used the most. I do have a pair of 1600mm, which were purchased for the building of the big bench. I also have a number of 900mm Irwin Quick Clamps.

The idea behind clamping is not to squeeze the absolute carp out of the timber, but to hold the 2 surfaces together for the glue to go off.

I know that the clamps i currently have are a POS!!! and are a pain to work with. Since i seen Bessey clamps in action at a friends house i am sold. I was actually considering getting the Irwin clamps originally but im happy to save and pay more for a variety of Bessey clamps!

I have both Bessey and Jet clamps and I prefer the Jet by a long way. Bessey and Jet are similarly priced.
    there is also these

which might make the budget stretch a bit further.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Thanks Guys. It looks as if it's going to be Bessey, and a brief search appears to show that Amazon.com has them at an attractive price.

Is the REVO model worth considering over the ordinary K body model?

Make sure you check out Masters as they sell the Bessey brand at good prices. Once postage is added from the States they may work out cheaper.
