    Default Disston Challenger

    Hello,

I picked up a saw that was covered in rust, but I managed to clean it enough to see that it's a Disston, but not the typical keystone logo. It has "Challenger" on it. I've found challenger saws on the Disstonian site shown on a brochure from 1935, but I don't know anything about them. Forgive me if I'm asking about a previously asked subject, but I've done a search of the forum and couldn't find anything pertaining to challenger. My saw came with a Warranted Superior medallion, so I'm assuming it may have been a lower quality product offered by Disston.

    Regards,
    Dave

Need pictures, could be pre-WW2, or 1960s. WS Medallion might be a replacement

Here are pics. There's some major rust pitting where the model should be (K6, K6 1/2, etc.).

    It's a Keystone K-6 or K-6 1/2.

I've got a K-3 Pacemaker and a K-6 1/2 Challenger, they work, but they're nothing special, just good user saws.

They are also listed in the 1948 catalog. http://www.disstonianinstitute.com/1948.html

    But not the 1953. http://www.disstonianinstitute.com/1953.html

From the looks of your handle I'd say yours was fairly late, the ones from around '35 actually looked pretty good.

In Keystone made by DISSTON Hand Saws, the
Merchant has a good utility product-a line made in
grades that will appeal to home owners, farmers, stu-
dents and all others who are willing to pay only from
$1.00 to $2.35 for a hand saw. These keystone Hand
Saws are made in the Disston plant under the super-
vision of skilled saw makers who have helped build
Disston prestige in the saw industry. They are etched
with the name Disston. They are BETTER Saws for the
price asked than others being offered at similar prices.
And, they carry the usual business-like margin for the
    Hardware Merchant.

    Yay!

No, they're not sought after, but they work.
