    Default disston saw handle?

This saw is on ebay and i want to know,is this handle genuine disston, the right side of the handle has no decorative carving whereas the left has ,i would have thought they would have decorated both sides ,your thoughts will be appreciated ,thanks Lloyd.

    Lloyd,

That's a Disston #12 saw, one of their top of the line saws along side with the #115. They only ever had the carving on one side. Looks like the handle has had some damage? hard to tell exactly whats happened to it. Certainly not in in perfect condition but certainly it would restore ok. The handle is shaped nicely making me think it is an early saw like say 1900-1910 ish.

They also made a #112 which was a skew back saw made from about 1917? -1928 before they redesigned their line up.

    Me, I have a #112 and an 1880's #12, nice saws.

Steve,Claw Hammer thanks for that though i'm intrigue as to why they only decorated one side ,i like the effort disston put into their early saws presentation compared to the last ones. Lloyd.

You'd have to sight the medallion to be certain of the age, and if the timber is apple of mahogany. Bit hard to tell with all that paint. Disston usually only carved one side.
