    Ray, that video left me with an odd feeling, it seems a bit contrived. Perhaps it's the strange mix of hand & power tool usage (never saw him pick up a hand saw the whole time, even when it would have been easier & safer than the bandaw). I guess we all evolve our own methods, & he ended up with a good working tool, so as I always say, "what works, works".

    But something I did envy is the nonchalant way he shaped the blade, it was the one operation he looked completely at ease with. It would take me all day to get it right!

    Thanks for posting that Ray.

    I really like the concept of making your own tools particularly when they are not easily available or are a bespoke tool.

    Very interesting video. What I couldn't get over was that he had all those tools to make the plane, but he doesn't have a paint brush or cloth to apply the finish, just slaps it on with his bare hand.

    Didn't you know that linseed oil makes your skin tough and waterproof.
