Now I do have a few cottoneasters on my block. They can get weedy so maybe I have found a use for them

Yes, Ian - boxwood is entering precious metal territory as far as price goes.
I have found that osage orange is a durable tough wood for handles, but I have nearly used my little stash and will need to source some more.
As for chisels, I have had a run of sad cases lately.
The most recent is a Berg firmer that was pretty grim.

Some very nice restorations - the osage orange handles look so smooth and crisp, inviting one to touch them.

Thanks Umar.
They would have looked better on the last two, but I left my beeswax at home when I turned them over at the Woodies Shed - so they aren't buffed.
The Carter 4-1/2 is a work in progress.
It originally would have had the thicker Carter blade, and it certainly benefits from one thicker than the Titan. Although that is an excellent blade in its own right, it doesn't do well with the cap-iron that was with it. Carter frogs have support for the blade only at the top and at the bottom, with a concave void in the middle.
Anyway, I am going to use a thicker blade and see where that takes me. I suspect it will work well, as the mouth is already quite wide.
Cheers
