    Default Dump score

    Hi there,
Had a disappointing day at the markets just over the back today: spied a couple of old hand tools I would have grabbed, but didn't for cash reasons; then went back for a couple of new steel centred wheels for kids trolleys (50c each) to find them all gone.
Took a load of fallen branches and the wheelie bin to the dump this arvo, listening to the NRL and took Loki for a run as well. At the green waste was a huge stash of cypress off-cuts from a building site, so I grabbed enough to keep me in kindling for the winter... feeling better now
Then at the main dump I grabbed a couple on interesting mechanical bits, and was about to drive off when I saw this old beauty below! ('scuse the bomby roller door in the photo, its only the timber shed!) First I was just going to strip a plastic spring clip and a rubber boot for my good one at home, then I just threw the whole thing in the back, not expecting much else.
Got it home, unfolded the thing - which was a bit stiff from lack of lube- but besides needing replacement top leaves (easy enough with thick ply, maybe formply even) its a user! The wonky leg at the bottom is much the same as my one, so maybe I can buy spares for that spring clip? If not I'll tack weld the legs fixed in the high position. Its great having TWO of these Workmates, same height and all!
Much better end to the day, and I chopped a box of kindling so have just lit the fire...

    Cheers,
    Andy Mac

Never come back later, it will be gone!

Great score at the dump though!

Went to the Bendigo market this morning and picked up an old, but good condition, 1"x8 tap.
Will probably never use it, but as my MC900 headstock thread is 1"x8 it might as well clutter up my shed as someone else's

Oh, paid the princely sum of $4

    Hi Andy

I've have the same experience collecting driftwood, sometimes I see a good but heavy bit and think I'll get it next time, hardly ever a next time though. Sometimes they reappear far from when I first saw them.

I had to take a pic of my workmate 2000, hey it seems older than 8 years since I first got it. The top went long ago, I think I crushed the leading edge and have since replaced it with some oregon edged with aluminium. On the list to do is to build a more robust version using a tougher winding mechanism as I have found the workmate really handy for holding odd shaped things while I shape them but it's a bit flimsy, I would do away with the fold down mechanism as I have found I don't do it much but can see the advantage if you don't have much room.

Mine has also got wonky leg too, it no longer wants to snap into position, I put up with it though it's part of its character.

Lucky devil. We don't seem to get the tips anymore in Vic. They're all called transfer stations up our way and you can't scavenge.

The Bendigo tip now has a huge recycle centre, where anything remotely of use is put up for sale. Some items are priced but most are by negotiation. Have picked up some real bargains there at times. Worth a visit.

Good score AndyM! Must be the weekend for scavenging workmates as I found a battered workmate outta the skip 2 doors up from here - covered in paint and a bent leg but everything else worked - the tradie must have decided he needed a new one. Also got about 20 lengths of about 1.2 m long x 135 mm wide old Jarrah floor boards and about 20 bits of 600 - 750 long x 135 mm New jarrah floorboard offcuts. Could have got a lot more but it was covered if rubble.

Next time I'm in Bendigo I'll give it a go. Really miss scavenging
    Thanks,
