    Default Stanley Bedrock No.607

    Hi all,

There's a Stanley Bedrock No.607 listed on Trademe at present. It's been relisted after failing to sell first time around. Highest bid was $NZ260 and it was offered to bidders and watchers at $NZ380 - but no takers.

If you're interested go to trademe.co.nz and search Antiques & collectables > Tools (sorry my PC skills aren't up to posting links). West Islanders (Aussies) can register and bid on Trademe (Silversniper already does...).

It's out of my reach. If I had that sort of money I'd order a brand new Veritas BUS or Clifton No.4 (actually I'm saving....)

    Cheers, Vann

Is NZ the only country where the ebay alternative is bigger than ebay? maybe the kiwis could teach us how its done.

I'll pass on the Bedrock tho

Oh dear, if you're prepared to pay $184.50 for a plane listed as "There is no manufacturer's mark or country of origin on the plane" then it serves you right! What do you expect?

From the looks of things, the only place is says "Stanley" is on the blade.

Yup, sent the guy an email and he confirmed there is no ID anywhere except the blade. So at the right price it would be a novelty item, but never a collectable.

Speaking of novelty items, here is one to ponder.

    Only in France.....

So what do you think.. maybe a home made casting?

I quite like home brew castings.. I find the occasional solid brass stanley in and around castlemaine, makes me think that someone at the foundry had a little side venture on the go at some point.
They aren't much to look at when you find them but stripped of a bad paint job and polished up they can be very striking.

I agree about the "Stanley". I'm currently working on a Russian #1 I got off ebay cheap. Wasn't much to look at, but casting is solid and as heavy as a #3. And it polished up quite nicely.

So this orphan unmarked semi-stanley might be a really good find... but I wouldn't risk $250 just to find out.
