I just want to know if anyone has ever bought something off the wonderfully optimistic Woodyjob: Antique Spoke Shave adjustable blade brass knobs | Trade Me
He's has stuff there for the best part of a year without selling. You'd think he'd get the hint...

Gateshead Plane
This one's been listed weekly since I started rust hunting back in October 2008.
www.trademe.co.nz/antiques-collectables/tools/auction-480134293.htm
It's a Rapier 400 (made in Gateshead, UK). I bought one the same (missing irons and lever-cap) for $2.40, and a second (missing only frog adjusting screw) for $10. So at $75 this is a real bargain .
So "be quick".

His listings really clog up the tool section too. Complete PITA.

Go figure...?!?
Here's a common or garden Record No.04, with a repair down one side (and possibly the other)
Attachment 211139sorry it's upside-down - it was like that in the auction, and I can't rotate it here
I decided $12.50 for my top bid - figuring that if I lucked out I'd just get a handful of screws, frog and lever-cap, while if I lucked in I'd also get a usable iron and two handles as well.
www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=479523831
It sold for $18 .
So I didn't rate my chances with this one...
Attachment 211140
...which I thought was a Record No.05. I put on a $10 bid (the reserve) and waited for someone to trump me. And waited... and waited...

Ten bucks you beauty . And even better, it turns out to be an 05½.
Go figure.

Repeat after me: you don't need any more Record 04s! That 5 1/2 looks good though...
That WS spokeshave you were bidding on looked interesting. He had a reserve of $30 on that, which I don't think did him any favours.
