Default Not an entry in the plane challenge.

I had need of a method of running a 3/4” radius groove on the edge of the backs for the chairs I’m making for my kids.
A there are about 22 of these to do I didn’t want to be using a paring gouge but a plane.
I had a dig and found an old corebox plane but it was too big and I didn’t want to modify it.
Also had a supposedly 3/4” moulding plane but it wasn’t doing a true rad, Tried modding the iron but gave up.
I have one of Terry’s 1” Brass bottomed rebate planes so thought I’d use it as a start.
Ground up a new iron plus ply wedge and added a few side guides in ply to locate and guide the cut.
As this is tap adjustable I did 12 pieces a a run, doing a small adjustment and planing all 12 before doing another adjustment and so on.
I have a set of Mitutoyo radius gauges so these were helpful on this job.
If I wasn’t so slack (and busy/disorganised) this would have been a good project for the plane build.

I took a few pics but the iPad won’t upload em currently?

That's a nice tool, with some ugly additions. But hey, if it does the job.

Well, as aldav sez, it may not win a beauty contest, but you'd have to take line-honours for practicality & efficiency, and it's certainly getting the job done nicely.
I would probably have spent days trying to make an adjustable fence arrangement with the idea it could be used for other jobs. But if experience is anything to go by, I'd use it once for the task it was made for & after that it would sit in a cupboard until my shed is finally cleared out.

    Cheers,
    IW
