I have one of Dad's Falcons, will restore it in time only problem I have is the chrome needs redoing otherwise she looks like she will come up well. From what I remember he had years of good service from it.

Great planes, I have several.
Can't see any real difference compared with my other Stanleys, Stanley Baileys etc.
$45 is very good for a #6.
Just check for cracks, too much pitting, life left in the blade etc.
If OK, buy it quick.Bodgy

Gratay, I have a Falcon no. 6. The sole is about 0.5mm out of flat (bowed), it has about two full turns of slop in the depth adjusting mechanism, and it is my best plane when it comes to doing some real work. I cannot make it take those lacy shavings that I get from the LA Jack, but it is second to none for flattening panels, for removing 2 mm of thickness or for taking out those scrub plane marks.
Make sure the body and woodwork are not cracked, check for pitting on the back of the blade, broken corners on the chipbreaker, etc. If all seems OK you can get an excellent plane for a very reasonable price. You may have to refinish the knob to avoid blisteres (DAMHIKT).

I've got a Falcon 5 1/2 that I use as my every day plane, and I find it brilliant. I've got it tuned fairly well, although I've just stripped it down to do a complete job on it. I picked mine up at a garage sale for $5. I've also just come into a Falcon 4 1/2 that looks almost unused, so I will be tuning it up next. I like them because they are Australian made (even though they stopped making them in about 1957).
