    Default New Falcon F4 1/2

    Received my new Falcon F4 1/2 this morning, picked up via Ebay.
    Plane Falcon Pope No. 4.5 (eBay item 220722309173 end time 16-Jan-11 13:40:04 AEDST) : Collectables
    Was, on first sight, in reasonable condition with both totes being complete, and no cracks or other damage visible on the casting. All good then, so off to the shed to give it a bit of a clean. Pulled out the blade and lifted the tote to find this.

    Even better, it was a real user plane. Long story short, few hours later, I present my new F4 1/2 in all it's glory.

    And in use all I get is ssssshhhhhhh, no ssssshhhhhh chatter chatter chatter, just that sweet sweet ssssshhhhhhhhh!!

    Very nice work Darren.
    I think that the Falcons are much under-rated planes . The 4-1/2's are actually hard to find.
    You got yourself a bargain there.

    There appears to be little interest in the Falcon/Pope planes on ePay, for reasons I can't explain. I have three and they're all very good users. You got a real prize there it seems, well done!

    I've got 2 Falcon 4 1/2s and 2 Falcon 5 1/2s. My favourite sizes. I think the capability of the tool exceeds the ability of the user in my case, so I'm happy with them.

    Darren,

    I have gradually collected and restored the whole set of Falcon and Pope models, including two transitional planes. It all started when I found my late dad's as-new Pope 5-1/2 in its box.

    IMHO they are a well-kept secret and better built than that other popular brand. Heavier castings, better steel in the irons, frog better designed.... I even got one from a shed fire and it restored perfectly, no damage to the casting (knob and tote were a little worse off, as was the nickel on the lever cap!) My standard test is a single paper-thin curl from an 8' length of Tas Oak in the carpenter's vices. As you say, tssssssssshhhhhh!

    Good work - keep it up and look out for more.
