    Default Father-in-law'a tools

Started to clean up some of my father-in-laws tools.

    1) A 26 in saw, It's a fairly modern looking saw, The etching is quite faint but states the brand as a "Bushman's Joiner", and also says "Made in Sw_____", Any ideas?

    2) A Disston 12. It is somewhat unusual as it has the C1_12 handle with a C2_12 blade. Anyone seen one like this before and might know how old it is? The etching is barely visible and the opposite side is heavily rusted so this has taken about 3 evenings to get into shape. The apple handle is in very good nick.

    3) I just started cleaning up a Tyzack Sons and Turner, Nonpariel Number 148 with the Nonpariel Elephant brand. It's a 26", 6 TPI. Not that rusty but the etchings are very, very faint. It has an etching on the lower half of the blade that says, "This Saw carries a full guarantie, Tyzack Sons and Turner, 1812". I found the Tyzack website but no info on how old the saw might really be. Any ideas ?

    4) A ball and peen 3/4 lb hammer head. It has "1773 Bradys" stamped on the head. Anyone heard of these?

Its been real fun tracing the background to these saws and there are 7 more to explore. Will post some pics once I complete the restoration.

    Cheers

Hi Bob--pictures of the handles and possibly the etch helps nail down a year range.

On the handle, the medallion of the Disston helps a lot.

    Take care, Mike

Are you sure that hammer-head doesn't say 'Brades' instead of 'Bradys'?

    Brades made excellent quality hammers.

    Cheers,

Where you see a tree, I see 3 cubic metres of timber, milled and dressed.

Yep that'll be it, the stamping is in capitals and is quite faint.
    Thanks for the lead.
