What is your favourite handplane?
I was wondering if the dedicated and not so dedicated darksiders could enlighten me a little and tell me
what is their favourite handplane?
and what is the plane they use the most?
I know they have different purposes but I did read some time back on chap reaches for his LN164 99% of the time - hence it must be his favourite for most tasks.
I went to a building site yesterday for an inspection and met a guy Chris Beaver "tool collector restorer" he features on the cover of AWR50 with some of his collection and an article within - interesting guy. I will most likely visit him and his collection near Beenleigh one day as he offered.Cheers

Well, since I've been focused on building a house for the last year, the one I've used more than anything else is my Veritas Low Angle Block. Very handy for fit outs, chamfering decking, taking a whisker off here and there, and it fits in your pocket.

Most powertools have sharp teeth.
People are made of meat.
Abrasives can be just as dangerous as a blade.....and 10 times more painfull.

I've got 6 or 7. My favourite is the sharp one.

Lie Nielson Low angle Smoother, LN Scrub plane. And for jointing LN#6 Foreplane, Stanley #6 Jointer, but best of all Festool TS 75 Plunge saw, straight, smooth and not a saw mark in sight.
Boo! Hiss! they cried as he curled his moustache and wrapped his cape around him!

I have a stanley 10 with a record blade. It peels off shavings better than any plane I've got. Not sure why it works better than the rest but it's a pleasure to use. The open sides are a great feature also

Anchor Number 7
About twenty years ago I had the chance to buy a choice of number 7 planes. Between a Stanley Bailey (USA) Number 7 and an Anchor (Sweden) with a Jernbolaget blade, there was, in my opinion no contest.
The Anchor won hands down. It is a lighter number 7 than the Stanley, but oh so sweet in the hands. The tote is simply superb, the mouth is nice and tight and the steel in the blade is of outstanding quality.
I find myself looking for an excuse to use this plane when another is more suitable.
Interestingly Jernbolaget also made some very good quality chisels which are rarely mentioned in dispatches about "which chisel is best?"
Happy shaving

For me its my LN Low Angle Block & LN No4 Smoother closely followed by my HNT AussieJACK. As soon as you pick these tools up you just know theres something special about them.
Most importantly there've yet to let me down always a pleasure to use and create a buzz & magic that few tools can match or surpass!!! Simply Handtools at their BEST!!!
