Do you remember the Vicar of Dibley episode where Alice was reading from an ancient bible at the end? All the "S"s were written as "F"s.
There was much stumbling and attempting to think it through when she got to "And the Lord will be my succour"(written in the modern version here, for fairly obvious reasons).

The Logan article points out what is so easy for enthusiasts to forget - woodworkers had to make a living from their trade. Any time spent sharpening had to be kept to a minimum.
