My 1920s home carpentry book in its peculiar language is very clear that the eyes are to over the saw when using a handsaw, "so "he" ( sorry quoting for reference) can see both sides of the saw"
it a succinct statement. Seems to work though. The body need to be in a skew to position the eyes the way comfortably above the saw. As a corollary the skew portion clears a good path for the elbow to be inline with the saw. Plus it is easier to watch the blade is plumb and straight.

    One more experiment.

Tried sawing with the worst possible posture. Stood right front of the item to saw, with the shoulders square. In this position The wrist has to twist and the elbow need to move in and out to move the saw in a path. Really awkward.
The cut I aimed for a compound cut leaning back to me. Not a cut one can learn easily by muscle memory

What I was testing was what if the observation of the saw could still keep the saw accurate. Keeping one eye (non dominant) over the saw. The eye over the saw can see either face of the blade. The second eye is watching the a target point - essentially the lowest point of the cut line. Most of the concentration is on the saw. The eye over the saw was tracking the the motion was parallel and the saw was directed at the target point.

The result - nailed it, dead on line - easy.

Conclusions - Hand eye coordination is amazing but I guess that should be obvious as even reach for wine glass - as I doing right now is easyas long as I am watching what doing. If I don't watch it could get messy..

Posture may make thing easier but not it seems essential for accurate cutting...

Neat and flexible approach - so I guess all my saws are now "precision" instruments...
