Default 4 Saws of the Sawpocalpse

The other day I was looking around for handsaw to do a quick cut and realised I don't have any.

I was offered to buy these four bout thought they were a bit expensive. Came gone and looked on eBay etc and considering you can't get these kind quality saws anymore and the prices they are selling on eBay I decided to pick them up.

I know some of you guys are saw consumers and make appreciate them or alert me to a unicorn

I'm not sure if it's a unicorn, but the Sorby with the 5tpi profile is awesome.

    Nice pickup.

    Cheers,
    Luke

    Most everything...

The lack of rust, the visible stamp, the intact horns, the sculpted lambs tongue, the recessed medallion, the flush sawnuts, the depth/width of the blade, and the aggressive toothing profile... for starters!

Mind if I ask what you paid for it/them?

I paid $200 for the four saws, gun box and an eclipse saw set. I hope I did well.

I think you did. You basically have a complete arsenal of hand saws there.

I know jack about English saws, but the tenon saw looks old. They stopped putting that much detail into saw handles a while ago. If it were less than 100 years old I'd be surprised.

Bushmiller will drop some knowledge on us when he sees them. He's the saw man.

    Cheers,
    Luke

Plus they're all in well, well above average condition.

And he's got this weird, crazy, messed up fetish going with roos. Must think they are unique to this part of the world or summat .

Actually I agree with him in that saw looks really good. I also like the tenon saw, which looks like a fair lump of a back saw. They are definitely not my area of expertise. RayG might be your man there. It looks to be about 18" so would make a good saw filed rip for large tenons. It is what my irreverent son would describe as a "man's saw."

Any chance of some more close up (and sharp) pix of the medallions and any etch areas?

In fact I thought Luke did extremely well to identify the Sorby in the first place. There is not much wrong with his eyes even if he does have this thing for roos.

All those saws look like potentially excellent users providing they are straight and no missing teeth (actually even a missing tooth is no problem if they are keepers.)

The techs aren't very visible, the Sorby actually looks stamped rather than etched.

Not sure why all my photos are coming out hazy lately, I gave the lens a wipe as I thought it may have some workshop grease on it but doesn't seem to have helped. I'll try again.

Three crowns at points of a triangle in position with Rob Sorry "kangaroo" Sheffield.

The disston had an etch but is so faint I can't make it out. It does have N/H below the handle.
