Default A gem and a whatsy?!

Been away for a few weeks sorting out my old mans shed after he passed away and I'm only back on-line for a couple of days before the auction of his lifes accumulation (Saturday 14th April in Coffs Harbour for anyone looking for wood or tools!).
Found hundreds of amazing odds and ends amongst his stuff but these couple were my favourites.
Pics 1 & 2 are of the little ruler/vernier he carried in his pocket for more years than I can remember. It's a No.1211 but I can't read the makers name - possibly Donaldson? May have no monetary value but means the world to me!
Pics 3 & 4 are of a gadget he found while on his honeymoon 55 years ago in an old case. Mum can't remember what it is and I have no idea - any takers????????
Pic 5 is a 4" paintbrush dating pre 1966 still in the cardboard wrapper - probably needed it urgently at the time!!!!

Pic 1 here is the back of the brush wrapper.
Pic 2 A classic spark-plug box (J-8's) that my motorbike mechanic son is begging for! Can hold him to ransom on this one for a while.
Pic 3 is the 4 pieces of Lignum Vitae I didn't know he had - but what do you do with them when they are only 12 to 15mm thick?????

Lucky you. The thingy with the handle held together with wire looks like something you'd use to remove fencing staples.

That was my guess as well. A tap on the back with the hammer, and the staple should pop right out.

But I can't imagine why there's that bump on the side with the writing on it.

What does the writing on it say?

TTIT, to me it looks like a cobblers hammer/leather slicing combination tool? But then again, I really have no idea....

The whatsy might be a heel shave... is there another photo to view from the end of the metal piece?

I'd have to take a pick from that angle but there's really not much to see - it's just a smooth domed surface like a panel-beaters dolly

How wide/long are the Lignum Vitae thin slabs? They could possibly be laminated to the base of a wooden plane . . . depending on the size.

Correction! 15-20mm thick, 40mm wide and average 300mm long. - but I rarely use planes - in fact I only had one until now and I've inherited 3 more that will probably never get used.
