Yes, definite interest here (unless BobL wants to make me one).

Gramercy Saw vice
G'day all
I have had several contacts with Gramercy the latest being today from Joel at Gramercy to say they are interested in putting through a bulk order and are working on alternative post options to try to reduce the overall cost.
I am aware that a fair bit of time has passed by and interest may have waned.
Could those who are still interested ( subject to costs ) please let me know so I can decide if it is still worth chasing up.
Regards

Subject to costs... maybe, but probably not, I think the Veritas low angle jack is first on the list, and a dmt diamond sharp to look after it... so its unlikely I can justify this now. Still, one of the most beautifully designed tools around. Lusting after those hold downs too.
Sorry to drop out.Cheers, Richard

I have finally received a reply from Gramercy as below.
If people are still interested could you let me know and we can then look into delivery / collection within Auatralia.
Regards
"Sorry for the delay,
10 saw vises by air about USD 340 (plus a little for insurance)
if however you order about 15 saw vises and go over 150 pounds shipment the cost would only be about 360.00

Just to be clear, the price quoted by Joel is Postage only not the total cost.
the cost of the vice is US 119 therefore total landed in Aus will be US$153 each for 10 or US$143 each for 15 plus any insurance costs.

Just be aware that you will get hit with import duty (10%) by Australian Customs, as the order will be in excess of the $1000 limit. Customs use total of goods value plus freight. Also the carrier will probably levy a customers clearance charge.
The current volatility of exchange rates also needs to be factored in. A few weeks back we got over 90 cents to the US dollar. This dropped down to about 80 cents within a day or so. It's back up to about 86 cents now, but could just as easily drop rapidly. You will need to add a few percent for the banking fees involved in transfering money or using a credit card.
So, count on paying about 15% more than the total of goods plus freight at whatever the current exchange rate is; and make sure you confirm you will get the exchange rate you expect.

Many thanks for your input, & I assume that you are speaking from personal experience . If we do get hit with an extra 15% then this would mean a cost for each vice of US176 on an order of 10, as against US$199 for an individual order direct with Gramercy assuming no impost from Customs.
Assuming that the exchange rates and bank fees would be the same for either option this would leave a saving of around $23 per vice which is likely in most cases to be negated by internal postage.
in light of your input and the fact that there has been little interest since my post of 5th June I think it best to cancel this unless someone can come up with a reason not to.
Regards
